Pinging sites are sites that are updated regularly containing latest posts from several blog so you need to ping these sites to show up your latest post’s link in those siteto get traffic and spread the buzz about your posts.

Wordpress has a auto pinging feature where a list of ping sites specified by you would be pinged automatically each time you publish a new post. Also your blog client tools used to post from your PC ping several sites. Scribefire blog publishing tool in mozilla browser pings pingomatic and others if selected. Also if you are availing feed services of Feedburner then there is an option Pingshot which if is active pings some select sites.

Use wordpress auto pinging feature

In admin panel click on option tab in top and there under it open writing subtab to see writing options. Scroll down and in the text area under Update Service add the links or url of the ping site (copy paste list of urls bellow) :-

Got this compressed ping list from Instant-Info-Online.Com where there is a case study and list is updated there.

So that’s a very short pinging list because the first one http://rpc.pingomatic.com which is a master ping site pings to all other ping sites including technorati and if i add those pinging sites to the list then you would end up pinging more than once and as we know our blog would be banned if we ping a particular pinging site regularly while publishing a new post.

Never ping same sites too many times because you may end up being banned from those. So either use feedburner’s Pingshot or your blog client’s pinging feature or add to wordpress options. Any one of them is ok.

If you want a comprehensive list of pinging sites to ping then refer to wordpress codex but remember if you use them remove pingomatic.com from the list as it itself pings them all.
