Well credit cards are still popular method of sending/receiving money online. Many sites have credit card processors which directly charge money from your ccs. But there are more options without credit cards as many firms send money by either cheques and some using online payment gateways as discussed bellow. I don’t have a credit card till now but already earned about $500 online, so creditcard is not compulsory. (we know general people/students like me belonging to india iran etc don’t use/have creditcards) Also creditcard payments can be sent/received by using online payment gateways discussed bellow.

You need an online payment method i.e. an online payment account with cash to trade with different people on fly. Online payment gateways like paypal allow you to create an account with them and store money in that account - with this money trade online with ease by sending money to paypal account of others whom you need to pay and receive money into your paypal account after you sell something. Everything is automated, all you need is to signup a free account at paypal and verify it using either a creditcard or a virtual creditcard (virtual creditcards or VCC are not real credit cards but act like them and are available for sale for cheap prices at different places - this is the only alternative if you don’t have creditcards). Using paypal account you can sell stuffs and get paid for it, you can run an online business it will automate money transactions, billing bidding and many other things. Besides paypal other online payment gatways which are less popular than paypal but more secure for sellers are Egold, MoneyBookers. You can add cash to your paypal account using your credit card and withdraw to your bank account(US) & get checks payable to you. For each payments you receive in paypal they charge a bit of fees (approx. $1/$20 payment).
2. A Website Or Blog
You may have a website about you, your works services, products and a blog about anything you like. There are several methods like showing advertisements to earn from your websites and blog. Also you promote/sale your online products and services in your website. that’s why having a good knowledge on web mastering - i.e. a bit of web design, web development, web promotion n marketing is good. read good books especially e-books and take part in discussions in webmaster forums like Digitalpoint to increase your ideas on this thing.
Above prerequisites are valid if you earn by selling stuffs/services or displaying ads in your websites. Some advertisement programs and some make money online programs pay by cheque so no need of such payment options.
