How To Identify That A Blog Has NoFollow or DoFollow Comments
September 12, 2007 – 8:30 amBlog readers, commentators at different blog who want the comments to be dofollow, especially their name and their link (URL) corresponding to this name because in this case they would be rewarded a valid search engine followed link back to their blog in return of valuable comments. I too have the same policy - why waste time in commenting in nofollow comment blogs even tough you want to say something.
Also don’t forget that comments are dofollow here.
Steps How To Know Comments Are Dofollow or Nofollow
Most blogs supporting dofollow comments would have a DoFollow badge in their site saying dofollow comments or we love your links which would point to a post where they clarify that comments are dofollow. Also they would have a page like why comment here like we do or a page for comments policy. Please read those to be assured of it.
TECHNICALLY check IF THEY ARE REALLY NOFOLLOW or DOFOLLOW
If you use firefox browser you can install the firefox addon SEO For Firefox and activate/enable it and restart firefox.
Open Tools->SEO for Firefox ->Options in firefox menubar and choose the highlight color for nofollow links as in screenshot bellow and press ok.
seo for firefox extension”>
Remember to turn on/enable SEO button on status bar (bottom part) of firefox. Then Do This - In any blog Visit the blogpost where you want to comment and look at the previous comments there or visit any blogpost of that blog with 1 or more comments. The comments generally appear like some linked text (link+name of the commentator) with the comment text bellow it. Just check if the link with commentators name is highlighted with the color you selected in the SEO for firefox extension options (as in the screen shot above). default highlight color is red. Then the comment and the links associated are nofollow and we should not waste our time commenting in that blog post and any post of that blog.
Some blog have a policy to turn on dofollow after you have 10 comments or more in their blog.
Blogs at free blog hosting sites including blogspot.com, wordpress.com and blogger.com have nofollow comments so you won’t get link love commenting in any such subdomained blog.
Alternatives
Actually the Firefox extension i referred above is most usefull because we can check backlinks of our and other blogs, we can check pagerank, alexa rank, technorati and other parameters from one place to judge a website.
If you don’t need the additional features of the above firefox extension (seo for firefox), you can get this NoDoFollow Firefox Extenion and it would only highlight nofollow links as above seo for firefox did and since it does not show other things like pr, alexa definitely it is light weight (and would consume much less computer resources - memory n cpu) than the seo extensions. Many people would like this because firefox it self takes lot of memory and other seo extensions add more memory woes to it . This extension is written by Zachary Fox.(you can check his comments bellow)
If you still use Internet Explorer you may use SEO Quake Addon but i’m not sure whether it would be of any help. i recommend you to download Firefox Browser. DoFollow comments (links) would act as a valid search engine recognized link to your website and hence enhance your SERPS.
