November 16, 2007 – 1:56 am

Yes some bloggers write great informative posts because no one comments there as they just read it, become happy and go. There’s no fault with that reader in this case but prob. lies with your blog post as being a great post can not get more comments. You need a bit change in post style, overall blog to get more comments in your posts. Read the stuffs bellow to know the real truths of getting more comments in blog posts. This is another BloggingTruths series we are having here.

Before anything you should have commenting enabled in your blog and unregistered users should be allowed to comment else forget about getting comments.

1. Ethics (Rules Of Thumb In Blogging)

This says that your blogposts need to be unique and readers should like it. No body would comment on spammy or blah-blah posts.

You should reply to comments in your blog and take it seriously. There may be arguments between you and a commenter but in comments only not in any private methods. Also negative comments may make your blog popular. To ease managing and replying to comments in the admin panel itself Better Comments Manager plugin for wordpress helps a lot.

One way posts in blogs like a politician giving a speech to a big audience won’t get any comments but the post should be made for getting views of your readers. Every post should address a set of your blog readers and you should mention that their views regarding what u post would be great. So make posts interactive so that blog readers read n participate.

2. Reward Your Blog Commentators (Incentive)

There are many ways to do this and show love n respect to your participating readers or blog commentators..

Make Your Comments DoFollow (we are a dofollow blog)

Using DoFollow Plugin For WordPress you can make your comments dofollow which means that when some one comments in your posts using his own blog/site’s link as URL in comment then he gets a search engine friendly valid backlink to his blog/site. A backlink for each commentators (infact each comments) show that you love their links. Without dofollow plugin the comments would become nofollow and search engine don’t count nofollow links as backlinks.

Reward top 10 or top 6 commentators each month or year or a semi year with some cash or any related gift as prize or just provide sitewide backlinks from your blog to their URLs which they used while commenting. All the above functionalities of rewarding top commentators of your blog can be done using Show Top Commentators Plugin For WordPress where you can set the time whether u need to show/know top commentators of month, year etc etc.

3. DoFollow Craze Among LinkBuilder(For SEO)

Link builders are now penalized by Google for buying links so they are getting links from blogs like this one. Links from blogs are highly reputed as blog contents are search engine friendly n unique. If comments are dofollow they can get a valid link to their URL by writing it in URL field of comment. So to improve their site’s search engine rankings they are looking for dofollow blogs and comment there to build links for SEO. Make your blog comments dofollow ASAP.

4. Make It Easier For Any Body To Comment In Your Blog

Usually in each wordpress blog commenting is
simple. Let it be like that. Make sure that commenting in your blog is never slow and never too difficult. Approve comments ASAP.

Feed Readers
or subscribers of RSS Feeds of your blog should have a easier method to comment in the posts which they read in the feed reader tool. Feedburner’s FeedFlare service for feeds help a bit in this matter. FeedFlare adds a comment link showing no. of comments and many other links showing number of comments etc in footer of feeds. Login to dashboard of your blog’s feed@feedburner, under optimize tab there click on Feed Flare from the left menu, activate it and customize.

Subscribe To Comments Have a option where any one can subscribe to a particular comment to read replies to his own comments and have an ongoing discussion there. Subscribe To Comments plugin for wordpress adds a subscribe to this comment option for every commentator.

At last you can make commenting in your blog great by following stuffs

Threaded Comments To add interactivity like forum in comments use a plugin Brain’s Threaded Comments which let’s your commentators reply to another specific comment in the same post by quoting threading (threaded reply).

Avtars For Commentators
You can have a avtar associated with name of each of your commentator. MyAvtars plugin for wordpress adds MyBlogLog.Com avtars for each commentators to their comments.
